പത്തോമ്പതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടില്‍ തരിയോടും മലബാറിലെ മറ്റു ചില പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും നടത്തിയിരുന്ന സ്വര്‍ണ ഖനനത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രവും, ഖനനത്തിന്റെ ഇന്നത്തെ സാധ്യതകളും ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്ന ചിത്രത്തില്‍ പ്രശസ്ത ചരിത്രകാരനായ കെ. കെ. എൻ. കുറുപ്പ്, സീനിയർ ജേർണലിസ്റ്റും എഴുത്തുകാരനുമായ ഓ. കെ. ജോണി, കൂടാതെ ചില മുതിർന്ന നാട്ടുകാരുടെ അഭിമുഖങ്ങങ്ങളും ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.

ചിത്രം മുൻപ് യൂറോപ്പിലെ സ്ലോവാക്യയില്‍ നടന്ന കൊഷിറ്റ്‌സെ ഇന്റര്‍നാഷണല്‍ മന്ത്ലി ഫിലിം ഫെസ്റ്റിവലിലേയ്ക്ക് തെരഞ്ഞടുക്കപ്പെടുകയും ബെസ്റ്റ് ട്രൈലെർ കാറ്റഗറിയിൽ ഫൈനലിസ്റ്റ് ആവുകയും ചെയ്‌തിരുന്നു.

കാസബ്‌ളാങ്കാ ഫിലിം ഫാക്ടറിയുടെ ബാനറില്‍ ബേബി ചൈതന്യ നിർമ്മിച്ച ഈ ചരിത്ര ഡോക്യൂമെന്ററി ഫിലിമിന്റെ ദൈർഘ്യം നാൽപ്പത് മിനിറ്റാണ്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സംഗീത സംവിധായകൻ ഒവൈൻ ഹോസ്‌കിൻസ് പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതമൊരുക്കിയ ഡോക്യുമെന്ററിയുടെ വിവരണം ദേശീയ അവാർഡ് ജേതാവായ അലിയാറാണ്. ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ സെൻസർ സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് സംവിധായകൻ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം തന്റെ ഫേസ്ബുക്കിലൂടെ പങ്കിട്ടിരുന്നു.

Thariode selected to Lift-Off Global Network Sessions, UK

A documentary film "Thariode" directed by Wayanad based filmmaker Nirmal Baby Varghese has been selected for the official streaming on Lift-Off Sessions festival of the United Kingdom.

The festival is a Global Network that selects the films/Short films all across the world for their competition. The annual Live screening of the winning films will be held at the Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom.

This documentary film tells the story of gold mining in Thariode, one of the most ancient cities of Malabar region, a long, narrow coastline on the southwestern shore line of the mainland Indian subcontinent. Film also charts the history of gold mining in Thariode and other areas of Malabar in the 19th century.

The film was an entry at the Košice International Monthly Film Festival in Košice (Slovak Republic) and was a finalist in the best trailer category. The film is produced by Baby Chaithanya under the banner of Casablanca Film Factory. Mathew M Thomas and Fr. Biju Mavara are the executive producers. Currently, Nirmal is working on the post-production stage of his feature film titled Vazhiye. It is the first found-footage movie in Malayalam. All the actors are debutants and Hollywood music director Evan Evans is the composer for this film.
